Objective: Determine if a rope jumping program improves motor competence in children from a school belonging to the municipality of Talca.
Methodology: A pre-test and post-test were carried out using anthropometric data of height, weight and also age to estimate the body mass index (BMI) and triponderal index (PI). Motor competence was also evaluated using the jumping test. that is, rope jumping in 30 seconds and horizontal jumping. In a period of 8 sessions, the intervention was carried out, consisting of a jumping program arranged in workstations using the rope in multiple exercise variants.
Results: The study showed significant improvements in self-perception and performance of jump rope in men, while in women the improvements were limited to certain specific aspects. Both sexes improved in three types of jump (p<0.05), but no significant changes were found in the horizontal jump (SH).
Conclusion: The results presented indicate significant differences in the self perception of rope jumping ability between men and women, as well as in motor competence measured through rope jumping.
