Objective: To determine improvements in the levels of functionality of older adults through an intervention based on the VIVIFRAIL program in patients of the General Hospital of Querétaro.
Materials and Methods: Pre-experimental study, 26 people (17 women and 9 men) with a range of 60 to 83 years of age, belonging to the General Hospital of Querétaro, were evaluated. Functionality was evaluated with the SPPB battery. A 12-week program with pre and post test evaluation was applied.
Results: A total of (n = 26) older adults were evaluated, of whom 9 completed the treatment. After twelve weeks of intervention, significant decreases were evident in the adherent group in the balance variables (p = 0.1), walking speed 4 m (p = 0.0001), getting up from the chair (p = 0.01), timed up and go (0.00001) and walking speed 6 m (0.001).
Conclusions: It was verified that the older adults who completed the treatment significantly improved their functionality in the 4m and 6m tests, balance, getting up from the chair and timed up a go. It can be concluded based on the exposed results that 12 weeks of a program based on VIVIFRAIL improves the functionality of older adults.
